(SAN FRANCISCO, CA) October 8, 2020: Anupama Reddy of the Joseph Saveri Law Firm today was selected as an Honoree by the American Antitrust Institute (“AAI”) for its 2020 Antitrust Enforcement Awards for Outstanding Antitrust Litigation Achievement by a Young Lawyer. She was selected for this prestigious award for her key role in In re Capacitors Antitrust Litigation, No. 3:14-cv-03264-JD, 3:17-md-02801-JD (N.D. Cal.).
Anu was one of the lawyers on the Plaintiffs’ trial team for the Direct Purchaser Class. The case involves allegations that dozens of international corporations conspired to fix the prices of capacitors above competitive levels. Capacitors are a passive electronic component found in almost all electronic devices. Some of the Defendants in the civil action pleaded guilty to criminal violations of U.S. law, although to a much smaller conspiracy than the one alleged in the civil case.
In Anu’s first year as an associate—indeed, in her first job as an attorney in the U.S. soon after admission to the California Bar—she played a central role in coordinating this massive price-fixing suit as the Firm litigated summary judgment, prepared for trial, and tried the case for two weeks before the pandemic caused a mistrial. She wrote briefs (including opposing summary judgment), attended sessions preparing expert witnesses, prepared exhibit lists, and performed a huge number of substantive and procedural tasks to keep the case on track. She was responsible for keeping key parts of the litigation organized and running smoothly.
Nor were Anu’s contributions limited to outside the courtroom. She argued motions and conducted the direct examination at trial of an expert witness.
Trial against the remaining Defendants will resume in late 2020 or in 2021. Settlements totaling $439.55 million have taken place against various Defendants. Distribution of these funds is ongoing.
In 2017, the Firm was honored for this same award for its record-setting settlement in In re Cipro Cases I and II. It was also a Finalist for this award in 2015 for its success on In re High-Tech Employee Antitrust Litigation.

AAI’s award will be presented at a virtual awards ceremony on November 12, 2020. Honorees receive an engraved award.
